Sport in Geelong
Hamlan Homes proudly supports the Geelong Football Club. One of the most successful teams in the AFL, the Cats have won seven VFL/AFL Premierships, 25 reserves/VFA/VFL Premierships, and eight McClelland Trophies. It is the second oldest club in the AFL, and for many years, was the only VFL/AFL club to exist outside of the greater Melbourne metropolitan area. Since 1941, the Geelong Cats have dominated Kardinia Park, known by its sponsored name "Skilled Stadium."
But the Cats aren't the only football heroes in town. There are also three other football leagues- the Geelong Football League, the Bellarine Football League and the Geelong and District Football League. In 2007, Geelong football had a double victory, with both the AFL and VFL teams winning their respective Premierships.
Other prominent sporting events in Geelong include the annual Geelong Cup, a thoroughbred horse race first run in 1872. In basketball, the Geelong Supercats dominate the Arena Stadium in North Geelong, and the Eastern Beach foreshore regularly hosts international triathlons and sports car racing events such as the Geelong Speed Trials.
