Building On Sloping Land
Flat blocks of land are generally the most expensive to purchase as they are the easiest surface to build upon. You may decide to purchase more undulating land and alter it, which can make for a more interesting landscape. If you choose to take on this challenge, however, you need to be aware of the extra work it will require.
The natural topography of the site can be altered, but it will require excavation work and must be properly prepared before construction can begin. This is usually an expensive process. Landscaping after the house is constructed allows you to add or remove topographic features, creating custom slopes and hollows that provide variety and aesthetic design.
One thing to make certain of is that the land is not situated in a flood plain. This may not be noticeable when the land is dry so check with the local council or ask for an expert opinion. Land prone to flooding is unlikely to be covered by household contents insurance so it is best to avoid as far as possible.
