How to heat and cool your dream home

We all have a list of must-have features for our dream home—and if you value comfort—heating and cooling would be one of them.

If you have experienced living in an older, uncomfortable home that has inefficient heating and cooling, you will understand how life-changing efficient heating and cooling can be!

And by building a new home, you’ve got the perfect opportunity to curate exactly how comfortable you and your family can be in your new home.

Every Hamlan home comes with a range of heating and cooling options, and coupled with following solar passive house design principles, you can have the home that you’ve always dreamed of, a home that’s warm and cosy in winter and cool and comfortable in summer.

Here are your heating and cooling options when building with Hamlan.

Every Hamlan home comes with heating

Gas ducted heating is an excellent option to keep your entire home comfortably warm. Every Hamlan home comes with gas ducted heating. The gas ducted heating unit is installed into the roof space and comes with a manual thermostat control, and is ducted to the living area and bedrooms (not wet areas).

If you’d rather an electric powered heating system, or you have a flat roof design, your Hamlan home will come with a split system/s. With split systems, you’ll be able to zone your home, only heating rooms when you need it.

Upgraded heating in your Hamlan home

If you want a more energy-efficient gas system, you can upgrade the system in your Hamlan home. One popular option is an upgrade to a 4 or 5-star ducted heating system with the addition of zoning. Zoning is an energy-efficient option that allows you to heat different parts of your home.

In addition to this, if you want to add a striking focal point to your home you should consider a gas log fireplace. Fireplaces are on trend and really help to solidify any interior style that you are hoping to achieve. In addition to looking great, a gas log fireplace helps to create a welcoming and warm ambience to your home.

If you’ve ever experienced a home with hydronic heating, you’ll know that it’s one of the best. Hydronic heating is the most expensive option, but you really can’t put a price on the comfort it affords you. This type of heating gives you a lovely constant radiant heat. What’s great about it is it has low running costs. Hydronic heating works by circulating hot water through panels that are either fitted to your walls or installed underfloor in your slab. Hydronic heating also offers zoning, so panels can be turned off so that you’re only heating the areas of your home that you are using.

Hamlan’s cooling options

Are you someone who has to feel comfortably cool in summer? Then air conditioning is an absolute must.

Your first option is a split system/s. The great thing about a split system is it offers both heating and cooling. Split systems are considered one of the most energy efficient options when it comes to heating and cooling. As mentioned above, what is great about them is that they can be placed in specific locations to keep only certain areas of the home cool or warm. Some split-systems also conserve energy by using motion sensors that slows the system down when you’re not using the room.

Your second option is evaporative cooling. This is a great choice as you can cool your entire house as it can be ducted throughout your home.

In addition to air conditioning, you can also have ceiling fans. Ceiling fans are a popular choice and are well-suited to Victoria’s milder summers, offering an energy efficient solution to keeping you cooler on a warm day. Ceiling fans also work well in tandem with your cooling or heating systems as they can circulate, cool or warm air to provide more comfort.

Ceiling fans can also create a stylish focal point to a space, with many different sizes and styles available.

How Hamlan designs comfortable homes

But when it comes to heating and cooling, it’s not JUST about what systems you put into your home. We have made it a priority to build more energy efficient homes, which in turn means more comfortable and enjoyable homes all year round for our clients!

All Hamlan homes come with wall and ceiling insulation—an important element to retain any heating and cooling that your home receives. Hamlan homes also come with double glazing and the Bradford Solar ChargePark including Tesla Powerwall, which also play a big part in keeping your heating and cooling costs to a minimum—by retaining heat and using renewable energy from the sun.

Another important element that we take into consideration is how we design a home to retain warmth in winter and keep it cool in summer.

All Hamlan’s architecturally designed floorplans offer flexible designs that lend themselves to a passive solar designed home. This means Hamlan’s floor plans have been designed to maximise the amount of solar heat gain in living rooms and zoning and grouping spaces within the floorplan.

Hamlan new home consultants get onto these design features by presenting plans at an early stage that show how the home meets the six-star minimum and then how the home can perform even better!
