What’s the best material for your home’s façade?

Prism, Hamlan

Have you thought about what your dream home facade would look like? Our guess is yes! And for valid reasons—street appeal is important! You want your home to add value to the location it’s in, whether it’s a new estate on the Surf Coast, an established tree-lined street in Newtown or an acreage in Barrabool.

Your facade also sets the tone for the rest of your home—and with good design your facade will work harmoniously with the rest of your home.

At Hamlan, we highly value exterior design and offer architecturally designed facades that suit a range of different design styles. In the single storey, we have the Focus, Stellar, Crest, Lumen, Scenic and Prism. In the double-storey, we have Fusion, Contour, Clarity and Horizon.

The brilliant thing about Hamlan’s facades is that with careful selection of colour and materials you can really make each facade your own.

We use James Hardie cladding on our facades to create everything from contemporary to traditional style homes. We choose James Hardie products because they are durable and weather well—perfect for a quality Hamlan home built to last. They also look fantastic and by choosing the right James Hardie product you can add depth or softness to achieve the look you’ve always wanted.

Let’s take a closer look at Hamlan’s favourite James Hardie products and how we use them on our homes.

Linea™ weatherboard

We love James Hardie Linea™ weatherboard! We’re passionate about building coastal homes to suit our beautiful region and Linea weatherboard ticks all the boxes for both aesthetics and practicality!

Linea™ weatherboard is the ideal choice when creating that beachy and relaxed look for your home while keeping it refined and stylish.

Linea™ weatherboard is so versatile and timeless, which is why it is often used to create a Hamptons coastal look, a traditional Queenslander or a classic country estate.

Prism, Hamlan
A modern take on a traditional cottage facade, the Prism facade combines silver top ash lining boards with Linea™ weatherboard, a combination of materials that would suit any coastal landscape.

This product is made for our Prism facade, as seen on our Cumberland 232 display in Armstrong—Mt Duneed. The Prism is a modern take on the traditional cottage facade. With this facade, a timber hood wraps around the windows to create depth and character. On our Cumberland 232 display, the Prism facade combines silver top ash lining boards with Linea weatherboard, a combination of materials that would suit any coastal landscape.

This also works well on our double-storey Fusion facade, to create the ultimate beach house getaway. We recently used it on our first Kalimna 240.

Kalimna, Hamlan
James Hardie Linea™ weatherboard works perfectly for our Kalimna 240 home with its Fusion facade. This home design is the ideal beach house and the Linea weatherboard instantly creates a classic, laid-back coastal feel.

Linea weatherboard has been the ideal product when working with heritage overlays—as was found in this custom build in Newtown, Victoria. This facade was designed to seamlessly sit among other heritage buildings in this popular tree-lined suburb of Geelong.

Axon™ cladding

Modern design calls for a uniform surface and to achieve that smart, clean look Axon™ cladding is an excellent product.

Axon cladding proved to be a suitable choice for our Frank Street development, which was a development of six stunning residences that set out to blend into the streetscape with contemporary to traditional facades. Situated in Newtown, Geelong, the Frank Street location features a range of modern and heritage homes, so it was important our homes slotted into this area effortlessly. James Hardie products gave us the ability to create multiple different looks that all tied in to the one streetscape.

Frank Street, Hamlan
Our Frank Street development allowed us to design multiple different facades to tie in to the one streetscape.

The vertically grooved panels of Axon cladding created a subtle design feature that allows you to play around with its the texture, width and direction to create an exterior design that is uniquely yours.

Kalimna Horizon, Hamlan
The Horizon facade on our Kalimna 240 design uses Axon™ cladding to highlight the large feature window.

Matrix™ cladding

For an ultra-modern look, we opt for the Matrix™ cladding. Matrix cladding works well to frame features on your facade, such as the skillion roofline on our popular Stellar facade.

Our Stellar facade—which can be seen on our Erskine 211 on display at Oakdene Estate—has modern clean lines and a dramatic skillion roofline that flows inside with raked ceilings at the front of the home. Matrix Cladding makes a distinct statement. And on our Stellar facade, it does just that! Matrix cladding highlights the geometric shapes of this design creating a bold, modern home. But the options really are endless with this product and by combining vertical and horizontal panels to create a geometric pattern, you can really create a piece of modern art!

Stellar, Hamlan
Our Stellar facade uses a mix of James Hardie products to create a stunning combination of natural textures with modern design. It features SilverTop Ash cladding and with the James Hardie Axon™ cladding and uses the modern Matrix cladding to frame its skillion roofline and garage.

We have played with this idea with our homes in our Frank Street development and used a mix of Matrix and Axon cladding to create each home’s distinct look.

Frank St, Hamlan
This home in our Frank Street Development, used a combination of James Hardie products to create this bold, modern design. Axon cladding was used to frame the balcony, while the use of the Matrix cladding has worked well to add a subtle modern detail against the warmth of the timber front door.

Stria™ cladding

For a timeless look, we opt for Stria™ Cladding. This proved to be an excellent choice for our modern farmhouse in Barrabool. In addition to being suitable for a home that faces the elements in its rural location, the vertical cladding met the client’s brief to create a striking modern, modular farmhouse that was able to run along the treeline and maximise its beautiful country views from all angles.

AndersonRoad 116749retFinalColChangeFlat, Hamlan
James Hardie Stria cladding laid vertically was the perfect choice for this custom build in Barrabool—a modern farmhouse for a couple who love the outdoors.

With Stria cladding you don’t just have to run this product vertically, its deep grooved lines allow you to lay it both vertically and horizontally, so you can create an exterior that says contemporary or an exterior that can be a little more traditional.
