When physiotherapist Matthew Townley bought land to build a home last August, there was one builder’s name that was always spoken of in a very positive way – and that builder was Hamlan. And during his six-month build with us, Matthew wasn’t left disappointed, not only has he come away with a new, beautiful home in Torquay, he and his partner have plans to build another home with us in January.
“One of my main reasons for selecting Hamlan was that, as a small business owner and practising physiotherapist I’m in a fortunate position in that I come into contact with multiple people every day from all walks of life,” Matthew says.
“During many of my consultations and general chit chat I would ask people who had built recently if they would mind sharing their building experiences.
“From this ‘market research’ and a fair few horror stories (with other builders of course!) one name that was always spoken of very positively was Hamlan.”
Matthew says that as soon as they stepped foot inside the display home at Warralily, he and his partner were made to feel more than welcome by sales consultant Cara Oliver.
“Always prompt with her replies, juggling designs and site plans for us with flexibility and professionalism – even when we asked to change the design,” Matthew says of Cara. “Nothing was too much for her and she always greeted us with a smile.”
Matthew says as someone who is “no interior design expert”, he found the entire style studio process seamless with the help of Hamlan’s expert Style Consultants.
“The proof is in the pudding as they say the house looks amazing,” he says.
Despite hearing that the build process can come with a multitude of problems, Matthew says that during the entire build with Hamlan, he had no issues.
“I recognise the main reason for this stress-free build experience and ultimately the quality of the build was because of the work site manager Richard did onsite during this time.
“From outset Richard made it clear I could contact him at any time, ask any questions when needed and that he would do his best to deliver the build on time.
“And he was true to his word, he kept me updated about key dates and inspection times, met me onsite whenever I wanted or needed and answered all questions in a friendly and timely manner. He really made me feel like nothing was too much trouble.
“I knew Richard had been a fantastic site manager and that I was lucky to have him through my build but this was further confirmed to me once I engaged my building inspector to check the home before handover.
“A notorious hard-liner on builders and champion of the people – a client of mine who used him told me how she watched him tear shreds out of a builder at frame stage for poor workmanship – I asked him afterwards his thoughts and told him to be honest.
“He said it was one of the best properties he had been through.
What builder would Matthew recommend next time?
“If any of my many clients ask for my build experience, I will speak in glowing terms about Hamlan,” Matthew says.
