Initiative to boost apprenticeship numbersPublished on October 12, 2017
This morning students from St Joeys and The Gordon visited our Frank Street development in Newtown. Our team spoke to the students about the construction industry, the opportunities for young people to learn a trade and what’s involved in completing an apprenticeship.
Today’s program is a joint initiative being run by the Master Builders Association of Victoria and The Gordon which has been held annual for the past three years. Students are taken on a tour of various residential and industrial construction sites in an effort to encourage them to undertake an apprenticeship.
Andrew Carroll, General Manager said that the industry is seeing a shortage in some trades which has been driving up prices over the past two years. He said that with the continued demand for housing in the region now is a great time for young people to complete an apprenticeship.
“The construction industry is a progressive industry and if kids work hard to complete their apprenticeship young they will reap the rewards.”
